Topical NSAIDs

• Cochrane review found them as effective as oral NSAIDs
• Less GI side effects
• Less systemic absorption than oral so may be safer in patients with renal impairment

Voltaren (diclofenac) gel

• Apply directly to site of pain
• 1% gel applied four times per day to affected area

Pennsaid (diclofenac) solution

• Indicated for knee pain
• Apply directly to the affected knee
• 1.5% solution 40 drops per knee applied four times per day
