Knee Pain

• Mechanical fall down several stairs landing on left knee
• Pain in knee worse with weight bearing
• Pain worsening over time

Compartment Syndrome

• The 6 P's - Pain, Paresthesia, Pallor, Poikilothermia, Paralysis, Pulselessness
• Lower leg has 4 compartments
• Anterior - anterior tibial artery and deep peroneal nerve
• Lateral - superficial peroneal nerve
• Superficial Posterior - sural nerve
• Deep Posterior - posterior tibial artery and nerve

Evaluation

• Normal compartment pressures = 0 - 10 mmHg
• Blood flow becomes compromised at compartment pressures > 20 mmHg
• (Diastolic BP) - (Compartment Pressure) < 30 mmHg = Likely Compartment Syndrome
• High index of suspicion - discuss with surgery / ortho
