Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy
- Estimated prevalence of 0.2-0.5% of population (all races)
- Can run in families (genetic)
- Causes myocardial thickening (particularly in anterior interventricular septum) and LVH
EKG Findings
- LVH
- "Dagger-Like" Q-waves in Lateral (more common) and Inferior distribution
- Left atrial enlargement
- Dysrhythmias
- May also show signs of WPW
Murmur
- Systolic murmur at apex or LLSB
- Increases with valsalva or standing
- Decreases with trendelenburg or squatting
Diagnosis
Treatment
- BB or CCB
- Amiodarone if having dysrhythmias
- Surgery/Ablation
