Gout

NSAID's (4-10 days)

• CAUTION - elderly, renal failure, HTN, PUD, liver disease, coumadin
  
• Indomethacin
• 50 mg PO tid
• Naprosyn
• 500 mg PO bid
• Suldinac
• 200 mg PO bid

Steroids

• CAUTION - joint infections, diabetics
• Prednisone
• 40 mg PO qdaily x 3 days and then taper over 10-14 days

Colchicine (0.6 mg)

• CAUTION - lower dose in elderly and renal or hepatic insufficieny
• CAUTION - lower dose in patients on CYP3A4 inhibitors (HAART, anti-fungals, abx) or P-gp inhibitors (cyclosporine)
  
• 2 tabs and then 1 tab q1-q3 hours until sx's improve or N/V/D

DIET

• Avoid beer, animal protein
