Admission Indications
- Concern for the development of apnea
- Young age (< 6-12 weeks old)
- Prematurity
- History of apnea of
prematurity
- Presentation with apnea
- Apnea witnessed by a parent or
healthcare provider
- Respiratory distress
- Hypoxia
- Dehydration related to the inability to take fluids secondary to increased work of breathing
- Social factors (parental comfort and/or reliability of care and follow-up)
Inhaled racemic-epinephrine
- RE improves symptoms within 30 minutes and lasts approximately 2 hrs
- Relapse is generally to pre-treatment levels of severity
